Accounting, Finance & Information Systems
The Department of Accounting, Finance, and Information Systems (AFIS), offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in Accounting, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Finance, and Risk Management & Insurance.
AFIS is one of two School of Business departments in the College of Business and Technology that provide for study in business functional areas. Working with the MBA Program, the AFIS Department offers graduate courses in the areas of accounting, computer information systems, finance, and quantitative methods.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), national starting salaries for AFIS majors are among the highest in the nation, typically holding the third highest average salary. According to the NACE Salary Survey Spring 2015:
- Information Systems - $62,194
- Finance - $54,086
- Accounting - $49,807
- Risk Management & Insurance - $49,807
The College's Center for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Technology (CEDET) and the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems (AFIS) in partnership with the US Department of the Treasury, recently announced the first Train-the-Trainer Financial Literacy program designed specifically to serve low and moderate-income communities in Eastern Kentucky. This new Financial Literacy Certificate Program will train students and community leaders to become certified financial literacy instructors who will be able to teach community members to make informed financial decisions and take better control of their financial futures.
