Accounting Students Tour Tempur Sealy International
On Monday, March 27, eleven Advanced Management Accounting Seminar students, along with five Accounting, Finance and Information Systems faculty members, visited Tempur Sealy International headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky. Activities were coordinated by Jaclyn Badeau, TPNA Controller and 2016 Outstanding Alumnus of EKU Accounting, Finance and Information Systems department. Hosts included six members of Tempur Sealy’s accounting team, five of whom are EKU alumni:
- Drew Hale, CPA, MBA, Accountant, Financial Reporting
- Blake Myers, Treasury Analyst / International Cash Manager
- Alex Workman, Risk Management Analyst
- Amanda Hall, CPA, MSACC, Manager, Global Financial Reporting
- Lisa Wilson, CPA, CGMA, Assistant Controller
- Jaclyn Badeau, CPA, CGMA, MBA, Director, TPNA Controller
Several activities were provided, including a networking exercise, dinner, tours of the facility, and presentations about Tempur Sealy and about the roles and functions of accounting and finance. Students learned that shared values of Tempur Sealy International, the world’s largest bedding provider, are much broader than its profit orientation as a publicly traded company, and include thinking big, thinking differently, passionate people, caring about each other, and doing the right thing.
Students saw numerous examples of these shared values as they toured the facility and heard about its operations. In addition, they heard numerous applications of concepts and methods they have been studying, such as strategy implementation, transfer pricing, and ethical considerations.
Dr. Trish Isaacs, professor of the Advanced Management Accounting Seminar course, commented that the Tempur Sealy visit provided rich examples of the application of the content students have been learning in this course and throughout the accounting program.
