AFIS Scholarships

The Department of Accounting, Finance & Information Systems offers a number of scholarships for incoming freshmen as well as continuing students.

  • Accounting and Finance students may apply by completing this Application Survey. The deadline to apply for Accounting and Finance scholarships is April 21 at midnight.
  • Risk Management & Insurance students may apply by visiting the RMI website.

Accounting

Baldwin CPAs Scholarship
First priority will be given to second-year students who are majoring in accounting. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years as long as the student maintains full-time enrollment and continues to major in accounting. Recipient must be in good standing, maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. 

Nina B. Duvall Endowed Scholarship
The Nina B. Duvall Endowed Scholarship is awarded to School of Business students working towards a degree in accounting. Eligible recipients must place within the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class, have a demonstrated financial need, and must be a resident of the state of Kentucky and reside in a county within the area situated east of Interstate Route 75. The area also includes those counties bisected by I-75. The scholarship is renewable and will be available for up to ten semesters of full-time enrollment. The recipient must apply each year meeting the following criteria: a GPA of at least 3.2. Should the recipient's GPA fall below 3.2 in any semester, they may not reapply until a GPA average of 3.2 is again achieved. The endowment will award two $1,000 scholarships.

Dr. Jessica Johnson Frazier Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Jessica Johnson Frazier Endowed Scholarship offers preference to an incoming first-year female student majoring in Accounting from an eastern Kentucky county. The student must have an ACT composite of 22 or above and must exhibit involvement in high school activities and/or community service in a leadership capacity. Transfer students may be considered. 

Bet and David Koeninger Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who have graduated from a Kentucky high school and have declared accounting as their major (including incoming first-year students). The scholarship may be renewable for up to eight semesters as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA. 

Gayle Mason Scholarship
The Gayle Mason Scholarship offers preference to a female students majoring in accounting who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and leadership. Two scholarships will be awarded each year in the amount of $2,500 each. 

McIlvaine Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The McIlvaine Memorial Endowed Scholarship is preferably awarded to an accounting major who is a new first-year college student. 

Max Reed Scholarship
The Max Reed Scholarship is awarded to an accounting major based on academic excellence and leadership abilities. Preference will be given to students of junior standing. 

R.R. Richards Scholarship
The R.R. Richards Scholarship is awarded to an accounting major who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

KYCPA Educational Foundation Scholarships (Non-departmental, professional scholarship)
Applicants must: Be enrolled in a Kentucky college or university and be at least a sophomore at the time of application; have an overall grade point average of at least 2.75 and an accounting grade point average of 3.0; have completed Principles of Accounting. The scholarships recognize scholastic achievement and leadership qualities in students who plan to become CPAs. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $2,500. Financial Executives International (Non-departmental, professional scholarship)
The Financial Executives International is awarded to a student possessing superior academic achievement and leadership in accounting.

Dr. Jeff and Dr. Jeanie Gail Bowman Endowed Business Scholarship 
Preference shall be given to students who have attained sophomore or higher class status, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. With a selected major in Accounting (Public or Managerial), or Marketing, or Communication Studies, or an Education/Teaching emphasis in Business. The recipient must be a resident or high school graduate of eastern Tennessee or eastern Kentucky counties. 

Economics

Kyle J. Thacker Memorial Non-Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to students who are currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students with junior or senior level classification, pursuing a major in economics. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen in good academic standing and possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, both overall and in EKU economics courses. 

Dr. John A. Wade Endowed Economics Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to students who are currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing at EKU, majoring in economics (after all current majors have graduated, the scholarship will be awarded to high-achieving students in the courses of ECO 230 and/or ECO 231 as recommended by economics faculty) with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.  

Finance

Community Trust Bank Scholarship
This annual scholarship is awarded to an academically superior junior or senior student majoring in finance.

Financial Executives International (Non-departmental, professional scholarship)
The Financial Executives International is awarded to a student possessing superior academic achievement and leadership in finance.

Matthew A. Evans Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to a Finance major, preference will be given to students who have expressed or demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in banking; if no such candidates are available, all Finance majors may be considered for this scholarship. 

RMA Scholarship
The Risk Management Association (RMA) Foundation Scholarship program is for students in an undergraduate program who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation. Visit www.rmahq.org/scholarship to learn more.

Risk Management & Insurance

Blue Grass Association of Insurance Women Endowed Scholarship: 

This scholarship was created by an endowed gift from the Blue Grass Association of Insurance Women. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student with sophomore, junior, or senior level classification and be pursuing a major or minor within the Risk Management & Insurance Studies Program.  Be in good academic standing and possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Women Leaders in Insurance & Financial Services Scholarship:

The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who reflect the ideals of the Women Leaders in Insurance and Financial Services. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

First preference is to be given to women who are majoring or minoring in Risk Management and Insurance and who are underrepresented in the college of Business and Technology.  In all instances, the scholarship shall be awarded in accordance with diversity and/or affirmative action guidelines. Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student with sophomore, junior, or senior level classification with a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

George W. Clark Scholarship Fund:

This scholarship was established by Mike and Bea Witt, to honor the memory of George William Clark and to promote the education of deserving students majoring in insurance studies.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Must be a student enrolled full-time at EKU as an insurance studies major.  Demonstrate good potential for the completion of a college degree.  Children of employees of the Cincinnati Financial Corporation will be given first preference in the selection process.

Jack C. Keir Inc. Endowment Fund:

This scholarship was established by Jack C. Keir, Inc. to honor Dr. Jack C. Keir and to promote the education of deserving students enrolled full time and majoring in Insurance studies at EKU. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Students must be a junior or senior full-time student majoring in Insurance Studies.  They must have at least a 2.5 GPA, show evidence of financial need, and show interest in the insurance industry through summer employment or participation in Insurance Studies projects.

KACo-EKU Insurance Studies Endowment Trust:

This scholarship was created with a gift from the Kentucky Association of Counties.  The endowment provides scholarships for students with a genuine interest in the Risk and Insurance professions.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Demonstrate financial need and genuine interest in the Risk and Insurance professions.  Be ranked as a senior or junior, be a Kentucky resident and have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Company Scholarship:

This scholarship was established by Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Company to promote insurance education for Kentucky residents and to help prepare young people to be better qualified to perform insurance duties and responsibilities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Graduate from a Kentucky high school that has been admitted to Eastern Kentucky University to major in Insurance.  Progressing toward degree in Insurance and maintain an overall grade point average of B or better. 

Northern Kentucky Insurance Agents Scholarship Endowment:

This scholarship was created by a gift from the Northern Kentucky Insurance Agents for students majoring in Insurance or Loss Prevention areas. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

The recipient must be a resident of Northern Kentucky and be in good academic standing.  Must be majoring in Insurance or a Loss Prevention related area.

Dr. Pete Kensicki Scholarship Fund:

The Dr. Pete Kensicki Scholarship fund was created to honor Dr. Kensicki, a longtime director of the school of Risk Management and Insurance.  The spendable funds will provide financial assistance for students majoring in the Insurance and Risk Management Program within the College of Business & Technology. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Student must be seeking a BBA in Insurance & Risk Management, be in academic good standing, and hold a 3.0 or higher during their academic career.

The Tom Nuckles Endowed Insurance Scholarship:

This scholarship was established by Robert B. Morgan, President of The Cincinnati Insurance Company in memory of Tom Nuckles. 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Students must be in good standing with the university.  The student’s major GPA is the first deciding factor when awarding this scholarship with overall GPA results being secondary.  First priority given to children of employees of Cincinnati Financial Corporation.

Risk and Insurance Management Society/Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters:

The RIMS/CPCU Insurance Studies Fund established at Eastern Kentucky University to promote the education of students enrolled full time and majoring in Insurance. This account is established as a result of a gift from RIMS/CPCU.

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Must be full-time students majoring in Insurance Students must maintain a 2.25 GPA.
