AFIS selects Roger McCann as 2010 distinguished alum

EKU's Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems is pleased to announce that Mr. Roger B. McCann has been selected as their departmental distinguished alum for 2010.

Mr. McCann was honored during a presentation on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the annual College of Business and Technology College to Careers senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Mr. McCann earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in both Computer Information Systems and Business Management from EKU in 1992.

He is the Interim Executive Director for Community Action Kentucky in Frankfort.  CAK represents 22 Community Action Agencies that provide direct social services to Kentuckians with low and moderate incomes in 116 counties in the state. Those agencies collectively manage a budget of $150 million and employ nearly 4,000 people, all engaged in the administration of programs to fight poverty in a comprehensive nature.  Some programs and services that you might recognize include Head Start, Child Care, Family Preservation, Family Reunification, Meals on Wheels, and Foster Grand Parents.

In his current role, Mr. McCann reports directly to the CAK Board.  He is responsible for oversight of LIHEAP contracts totaling $70.5 million.  ‘LIHEAP Subsidy’ is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.  Mr. McCann also oversees the $30.6 million Federal Department of Energy Weatherization Program.

In addition to his role as Interim Executive Director, Mr. McCann is the Chief Information Officer charged with overall strategic planning, vendor and association member relations, policy development, and budgeting as it relates to CAK information technology processes.

Prior to his association with Community Action Kentucky, Mr. McCann’s career in information technology management included consulting and strategic planning and implementation in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.

Congratulations, Mr. McCann, on being selected as the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus representing the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Mr. Craig McCann (accounting) was selected as the AFIS departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2009-10 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
